Last year, Unity announced the Open Beta of Unity Connect, the first talent marketplace dedicated to the full spectrum of Unity creators. Since then, over 17,600 skilled members of the Unity community have joined, showcasing their work with over 6300 projects, and drawing over 730 industry companies searching for talent to fill their open positions. With the new year comes a fresh batch of opportunity as hiring picks up and projects kick back into gear, so here are a few tips to help you maximize your visibility.

Your profile paints a picture of who you are and what you bring to the table, so make it as complete as possible. Fill out all the sections in your ‘About Me’ page (we now have friendly reminders on your Activity Feed), and consider including some information in your Background that states your goals and objectives. To really bring home what you have to offer, make sure you add Projects to your Portfolio. The ability for recruiters and talent seekers to visually browse and verify the quality of your work is one of the things that makes Unity Connect stand out as a powerful talent discovery tool. Many of them begin searching for talent by browsing Projects and filtering on skill tags first, so make sure your work can be found when they start searching.

Unity Connect now makes it easy for you to import contacts from your Yahoo!, Microsoft Outlook, or Gmail contact books and invite them to join. Inviting your friends and colleagues gives you a convenient excuse for them to (re)discover the awesome work you do, and will help keep you top-of-mind for future opportunities. And, this is a game where more players equals more opportunities to win — more people on Unity Connect means more visibility and opportunity for everyone, even if it’s not someone in your direct network. So, help expand the network by inviting those talented friends and industry contacts to join the party!

(#3 — Don’t be shy)
It can be tempting to create your profile and portfolio and then sit back and hope the work opportunities and offers just start rolling in. Most successful people don’t wait for success to happen, they make it happen for themselves, so, if you want to be successful, get out there and hustle! Follow creators whose work you find exceptional or inspirational, comment on their projects, and ask questions. By engaging with others on their projects, you’ll invite people to do the same in return, and start building your own following. The more engaged you are and the larger your following, the greater your overall visibility and your likelihood of getting discovered by help seekers and recruiters increases significantly.
