Department Overview

The Security Technologies and Response (STAR) group is responsible for developing and maintaining the core security components that are used in Norton and Symantec desktop protection products. These technologies are at the forefront of the battle against today's threats. The STAR group is home to Symantec's security experts. The group is high-talent and high-energy, pushing new technologies that must achieve the best detection, best performance, and best user experience in the marketplace

 

Responsibilities

·         The Security Response Engineer role combines the responsibility of rapidly responding to new security threats and exploits in the field and of conducting laboratory-based research with the goal of publishing original contributions to the information technology security discipline.

·         The principal responsibility of the candidate is to identify real-world security threats and then create protection signatures, definitions and rule sets to update Symantec security products to identify and prevent their exploitation. As this work entails liaising with members of the Symantec Professional Services and Enterprise Support groups in response to customer issues, much of the work must be done within strict time constraints.

·         The applicant must be able to occasionally work in high-pressure situations while remaining focused on the task to be completed. Working closely with other members of the Symantec Security Response group, in many cases in geographically separate locations, requires the ability to communicate issues clearly and concisely. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a necessary part of the job.

·         The candidate is expected to be able to work with minimum supervision and to display the determination to ensure both customer commitments and project goals are met. Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills are a must, as the solution to many problems faced in the role may simply not exist.


Qualifications

·         B.E. Computer Science / MCA / MCS. With 3 to 5 Years of experience in IT.

·         Must possess good knowledge of disassembly and 8086 / 80386 assembly language.

·         Needs to have deep understanding of reverse engineering techniques and strong debugging skills.

·         Well conversant with windows internals and through knowledge of TCP / IP networking is a must.

·         The role requires a strong working knowledge of shell scripting, PERL and/or Python and C/C++ programming to conduct day-to-day tasks
